Roblox has been a huge app in the world for a while. You’ve probably heard its name. was recently listed and its stock price soared so much it was temporarily worth more than gaming giants EA or Take-Two. Roblox was also a topic of contention in the Epic Games Vs. Apple trial.
Roblox is also a very popular app. 42.1 million Roblox users use it daily. During the pandemic, Roblox’s popularity has risen. The number of daily active users increased by 85 percent in 2020 compared to the previous year.
Although Roblox has been around since 2006, I had never really understood what it was. To give you an idea of the time span, the App Store was launched in 2008 for iOS. To help you understand the hype, I spent some time in Roblox.
What is Roblox?
I don’t know. I don’t believe there is a single Roblox object like a Minecraft block. It could be referring to the fact that Roblox allows you to build games that can be explored.
What exactly is a “game”? Apple makes me wonder these days.
An Apple executive who testified during the Epic V. Apple trial said that a game can have a beginning, an ending, and challenges. That one was easy for me. Roblox (the company) says Roblox is an app that offers “experiences.”

You can access millions of unique experiences, created specifically for this platform. While the majority of these experiences are games, you can also visit Stranger Things’ Starcourt Mall which has been re-created in Roblox. Roblox script tool even hosted a Roblox Awards show.
It all sounds complex. What can you do to win?
It’s true! You don’t win at Roblox. There are some games that you can win, but the main draw of Robloxis to just be a place where you can hang out and play lots of things with your friends.

I’m not sure. It’s quite a large number. It seems safe, however, since Roblox included that stat in all documents it had to file prior to going public. Roblox lying to shareholders would probably lead to hell.
Roblox users are more than half under 13 years old. However, 30% of Roblox players are over 17. Roblox informed me that the fastest-growing age groups are those between 13-17 and 17-24.
A lot of people needed entertainment and connection during the pandemic. Roblox added a dedicated space for virtual birthday parties.

A private party could be set up in Roblox’s dedicated space. It can feel almost like a rave. However, I expect more Roblox birthday parties to look like a group of friends opening the app and jumping from one game to the next. You can have a variety of experiences in a matter of minutes. The app loads quickly which makes it easy to recreate the chaos of a real children’s birthday party.
It’s kind of. Fortnite offers the Violence-Free Party Royale Mode, where you can run around on a small island with friends and shoot paintball guns at one another. You can also attend concerts at a large virtual concert stage, just like Roblox. Fortnite’s Creative Mode allows you to create entire worlds using weapons and other Epic assets. Minecraft allows you to build anything you want using its blocksy cubes, and create games on your own private servers.
Fortnite and Minecraft are largely fixed experiences that revolve around set mechanics. Roblox allows developers to create any type of game they like, whether it’s a third-person action or first-person shooter. Players can also grab their friends to hop from one game to the next with virtually no friction.

The concerts were a huge hit with 33 million viewers in just two days. They also featured four shows. (By comparison Fortnite’s massive Travis Scott concerts in April attracted 45.8 million, viewers, across five shows.
Roblox is making big plans to host other virtual music events, as it works towards a metaverse. The in-game “Bloxys”, awards, saw rock duo Royal Blood perform and premiere a new song. Roblox also wants to avoid being sued for music rights so it signed deals with Sony Music Group and BMG.
It is probably wise. What’s a metaverse, you ask?
A metaverse is a collection of virtual worlds, landscapes, characters, and other experiences that you can share in one space. Fortnite is one example. It allows players to dress up as characters from popular movies, video games, and sports. Roblox offers a wide range of virtual worlds and games that can be played in almost any environment that a developer could imagine.
Let’s say that I want to just play the games. What can I do?
In Roblox, you can play a few games from almost any genre in a matter of minutes. Piggy is a third-person horror game where you have to escape from a frightening pig holding a baseball bat. One of Roblox’s most popular genres is “hobbies,” which stands for “obstacle course.” You have to navigate dangerous platforms and avoid obstacles. Counter-Strike was even cloned by me, Counter Blox.
Are they good?
This is a difficult question to answer. Sometimes, having a good Roblox gaming experience or being a skilled player is more important than just spending time with friends. Many games focus heavily on roleplaying, and I mean that in the literal meaning of the word. In, I was a worker at a pizza place. Another game, Animal Simulator, had me riding a horse around a virtual world.
Brookhaven is one of the most popular Roblox games. It drops you in a small village, allows you to choose a house or car, and then gives you the freedom to be any person you want in the town. It reminded me of a child-friendly version of the GTA Online roleplaying game server.

Roblox is not a place you should expect to find games that have the same production values as Final Fantasy VII Remake and Fall Guys. Many Roblox games that I have tried feel a bit rudimentary with simple graphics and controls. The point isn’t to be a pro in any Roblox games but to simply have fun with the millions of virtual spaces available.
Which is your favorite game?
Thank you for your question. It’s Theme Park Tycoon 2 – a Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 clone. This brought back many of my childhood capitalist theme park-building instincts. To make sure I finish this article, I have been trying to avoid it. I like to jump into random obbys, such as this McDonald’s-themed.
How can I choose what to play?
Roblox has many experiences that you can access. You can jump into vanilla Minecraft to immediately build houses and craft tools.
Instead of thinking of Roblox like an app store, think of Roblox. You can search for games or browse different genres and categories. The “storefront”, which recommends games to you, also lets you search through them. Many players share their games with each other or search for things online that are recommended by YouTubers and creators.
It can seem overwhelming to start with so many options. It’s easy to just jump into a game and find something you like.
These games are made by who?
Everyone. Everybody! Children do it, and so can you. Roblox offers free development tools for getting started. It provides extensive documentation and guides to assist you in making games for the platform. Roblox provides developers with a traditional suite of tools to help them create games for the platform. This is in contrast to Minecraft where you literally build the environment around you with blocks.
Roblox is not only made by amateurs, there are entire studios that specialize in Roblox. While writing this article, I spoke to The Gang Stockholm. They’ve created, an official Nerf battle area game for Hasbro. Adopt Me is Roblox’s most popular game. It was developed by two people and now has a full development studio. They hope to hire 100 developers by next year.
There’s always money to be made
Developers have the option to make money selling items, cosmetics, or avatars in exchange for Robux, Roblox’s in-app currency. It seems that some of the most popular games can make a decent profit once they reach critical mass. Roblox claims that over 1,250 developers earned Robux worth at least $10,000 in 2020. More than 300 earned $100,000 or more.
If you are interested in developing Roblox games, you should be aware that Roblox can take an up to 73 percent share of the revenue players spend on your game, and as low as 27 percent if your Robux is converted into real money.
This 73 percent figure is significantly higher than the Google and Apple app stores’ 30 percent cuts (in most cases), and Epic Games’ 12 percent cut from Epic Games’ games on their Epic Games Store. However, those stores don’t usually host a multiplayer game for you. If you spend your Roblox proceeds on advertising, the company will take a smaller percentage.

Roblox isn’t allowing the possibility that the app will be available on these devices at the moment. Roblox CEO and co-founder Dave Baszucki stated that the Switch, PlayStation, and Quest make “perfect sense” in the long-term, but that they won’t reveal ship dates. So Roblox could be coming to your Switch one day, although it’s difficult to know when.

Parents can set up a variety of settings to control what their children can do on the app, and who they can speak to. Toggling a switch that requires a pin to change settings can be done by parents. They can even toggle a restricted mode which restricts access to Roblox-curated content.
Roblox claims that children 12 and under can have their posts and chats filter for inappropriate content, as well as personal information. Roblox chats can block children from sharing their home addresses with Roblox friends. Players can also report and block users. Roblox is also developing content ratings and ratings for games. However, Roblox has not yet said when this rating system will be available.
However, it seems that there are still gaps. Wired’sCecilia D’Anastasio wrote about a Roblox encounter she had earlier this year. She spoke with someone who acted as the Confederacy.
Roblox is unable to stop children from discovering the scary clown video hidden within the game.
Roblox is a big deal. I can live without it. What should I do?
You’ll have to do your own research. I think Roblox has a great chance to be the next GameStop, considering how wild this year’s stonks market was. It’s better than spending all that money on NFTs.
